God loves the people of Purfleet-on-Thames, Essex, and so do we!
Purfleet is a town of almost 13,000 people, on the northern edge of the Thames, just inside the M25 and the Dartford crossing, and bordered on the west by the RSPB Rainham Marshes reserve. It has a wonderful mix of industry, heritage, and new growth. Recently built housing estates sit alongside the docklands, warehouses and distribution centres, and are sandwiched east and west by High House Georgian estate (which houses a production park) and the remains of a military barracks.
Love Purfleet is a Christian charity seeking to echo God’s love for the people of Purfleet. Initially, we have employed Rev. Erica Bowler as a missional listener. Her role is to become a part of the community, to listen to individuals, to the wider community, and to God:
- She offers a listening ear to individuals, giving support and advocacy where required, and just making friends.
- She is joining in with existing community events, groups and activities, where possible, and talking to those living and working in the town, professional, voluntary, and churches.
- She is spending time in prayer and discernment, and reporting back to the steering group.
This will enable us to discover what God is already doing here in Purfleet-on-Thames, and how he is asking us to join in – growing new communities of love, making a positive difference in this town.
